3. New temporary exhibition at the BMW Museum

The BMW Museum will host the travelling exhibition “Museums in the 21st Century. Ideas, Projects, Buildings” from 20 May to 19 September 2010. It will be exhibited in the bowl of the BMW Museum, replacing the temporary exhibition of BMW Concept Vehicles.

The exhibition comprises 27 architecture projects, which were realized in the first decade of the 21st century, are still emerging, or aim to be a source of inspiration with their timeless ideas. The list of the participants reads like a who’s who of the world’s best architectural offices, including outstanding designers such as Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, Mario Botta, Renzo Piano, Jean Nouvel, and Daniel Libeskind, as well as Coop Himmelb(l)au, and Frank O. Gehry.

The exhibition, put together by Suzanne Greub, founder of the Basel Art Centre, had its debut in the summer of 2006 in Düsseldorf. Afterwards, it went on a world tour, which takes it to some 20 cities. Until now it has been to inter alia Rome, Linz, Lyon, Lisbon, Berlin, and several cities in the USA.
The exhibition particularly impresses with the rich variety of different projects and, for the most part, very elaborate architectural models. It not only addresses architects and designers, but was purposely conceived to appeal to a large public.

More about the new temporary exhibition you will find on http://www.bmw-museum.com.

4. Three in one go – BMW premium tour

On the new premium tour, visitors can explore the BMW Museum, the BMW Munich plant and BMW Welt in one.

Guests and visitors interested in BMW have the opportunity to discover three Munich highlights in a single tour. Every week from Tuesday to Friday there is a specially designed guided tour which begins at 2.30 pm. It starts in the BMW Museum, where guests are given an insight into the history of BMW lasting approximately 45 minutes. Here such features are included as the kinetic sculpture, the first BMW motorcycle, the first BMW vehicle and a BMW Mille Miglia 328.

The program then continues with a visit to the production plant. The highlights here are the robot workshop, body construction and the “marriage”. After visiting the plant there is a visit to BMW Welt,
including a presentation of the building’s special architectural features, the vehicle collection area and the current exhibition. After a total of around three hours, participants will have gained a lasting insight into the past, present and future of the BMW Group.

Guides specially trained for tour
Up until now guides have specialised in either the museum, the plant or BMW Welt. For the premium tour, nine guides from these areas were provided with special further training to enable them to conduct tours in all three areas.Up to 20 visitors can take part in the tour every day. For visitors the tour costs 19 euros, Group tours can also be booked, the regular price is 290 euros.

BMW Welt is available to you for bookings and further information every day from 8 am to 10 pm on 0180 2/ 11 88 22
(6 cents/call on a DTAG landline, rates may vary on other landlines or mobile phone networks).

Dear BMW Club members,

This year there is an anniversary which the motorcyclists among you can especially look forward to: the BMW Motorrad Days celebrates its tenth anniversary. BMW Motorrad would be very pleased to welcome lots of BMW Club members to this event. On page 3 you can find out what the BMW Motorrad Days have in store for you.

In his editorial, Dr. Ralf Rodepeter welcomes you and explains how his area of responsibility has now expanded to include not just the BMW Museum but also the BMW Clubs. In this issue you can also read about his future plans for sound collaboration between the BMW Clubs and the BMW Group.

The Board of the BMW Clubs International Council also made plans for an even more successful future at its yearly Working Meeting, which was held in Argentina on this occasion. Turn to the pages 4 and 5 to read more.

We should take the opportunity of this first issue to look back at some of last year’s events – such as the ALPINA meeting last autumn at which participants returned to the backdrop of the photo shoot used for the very first ALPINA models. This trip to the picturesque Lake Fernsteinsee was a truly unforgettable experience for all involved and arouses a pleasant sense of anticipation as the 2010 event season gets underway!

The world’s first Sports Activity Coupé with full hybrid drive therefore capitalises on the options offered by combining the combustion engine and the electric motor with a standard of perfection never seen before. BMW ActiveHybrid technology offers a significant increase in driving dynamics and at the same time reduces fuel consumption by approximately 20 per cent versus a comparable vehicle powered by a combustion engine alone. The result is even greater Sheer Driving Pleasure combined with enhanced fuel economy and CO2 management providing the kind of progress to make the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 a typical BMW in the hybrid market.

The overall drive system featured in the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 consists of a 300 kW/407 hpV8 gasoline engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and two electric synchronous motors delivering 67 kW/91 hp and, respectively, 63
kW/86 hp. Maximum system output is 357 kW/485 hp, peak torque is 780 Newton-metres/575 lb-ft.
