The new BMW 1 Series Convertible
BMW extends the open-top driving experience.
Compact and agile, the new BMW 1 Series Convertible is set to arrive in New Zealand early next year, extending the BMW Cabrio range into the compact segment.
Based on the BMW 1 Series, the new four-seater design characteristics, such as a slim silhouette, muscular wheel housings, distinct shoulder line, and large distance between the driver and front passenger from the windscreen, are typical of other BMW convertibles.
The top of the range model, the BMW 135i Convertible gets the same award-winning three-litre straight six cylinder, twin turbo petrol engine from the BMW 335i. Output is 225 kW/306 hp at 5,800 min–1, maximum torque of 400 Nm comes at 1,300–5,000 min–1 and the car sprints to 100km/hr in 5.6 seconds. Top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h.
The BMW 120i Convertible features a straight four cylinder petrol engine with Valvetronic. Engine capacity is 1,995 cm3 with output of 115 kW at 6,400 min–1. Maximum torque of 200 Nm comes at 3,600 min–1, and the car reaches 100 km/hr in 8.6 seconds. Average fuel consumption is 7.9 litres/100 kilometres.
The BMW 1 Series Convertible offers plenty of space for an active lifestyle. The “load through option, including transit bag, connects the luggage space and the rear interior providing a unique load capacity for this segment. In practical terms, the new 1 Series is able to carry two golf bags or two snowboards.

The optional leather upholstery features sun-reflective technology, greatly reducing the heating up of surfaces by sunlight.

The comprehensive safety equipment fitted as standard includes air bags, seat belt pre-tensioners, belt force limiters, rollover protection features with automatic extending protection hoop guard behind the head rests, crash optimised front seat backs and head rests.
The new BMW 1 Series convertible also boasts a unique selection of audio, communication and navigation options with standard AUX-In as well as optional USB and Bluetooth interfaces for complete integration of Apple iPod and other MP3 players or memory sticks.
The intricately designed suspension features an aluminium double-joint tie bar axle at the front and five-arm rear axle in lightweight steel with dynamic stability control.
Additional traction optimisation by electronic management provides the same effect as a differential lock. The M Aerodynamics Package, modified from the M Sports Package, is also standard on the 135i Convertible.
The BMW 120i Convertible is expected to arrive in New Zealand in early 2008 followed by the 135i Convertible later in the year.
